Motörhead was a British rock band formed in 1975 by vocalist and bassist Lemmy Kilmister.

Motörhead is considered one of the most important bands associated with the phenomenon known as the New Wave of British Heavy Metal (NWOBHM). For most of its existence, the band operated as a trio (guitar-bass-drums), with the exception of the period between 1984 and 1995 when a second guitarist was included. Commercial success came in the early 1980s when several of their singles entered the British Top 40 charts. The albums Overkill, Bomber, Ace of Spades, and especially the live album No Sleep 'til Hammersmith, solidified Motörhead's reputation as one of the leading British rock bands.

Though usually stylistically defined as heavy metal, the addition of a punk sound influenced the later formation of independent stylistic offshoots such as speed and thrash metal. However, the band's frontman, Lemmy Kilmister, disliked stylistic labels and preferred to describe his music simply as rock and roll, which has been the band's guiding principle from its inception to the present day. The band's lyrics covered themes such as war, good versus evil, corruption, abuse of power, drug use, and life on the road. The band's logo was created in 1977 by artist Joe Petagno for the cover of the "Motörhead" album.

Motörhead was ranked 26th on VH1's list of "100 Greatest Artists in Hard Rock."

The band officially disbanded on December 31, 2015, two days after Lemmy's death.
