The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy (English: The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy) is a science fiction comedy series created by Douglas Adams.
The narrative follows the adventures of Arthur Dent, an unfortunate Englishman, who, together with his friend Ford Prefect, an alien from a small planet somewhere near Betelgeuse and a contributor to the Guide, manages to escape the destruction of Earth by the bureaucratic alien race of Vogons. Zaphod Beeblebrox, Ford's cousin and galactic president by chance, rescues them. He takes them aboard a stolen spaceship, whose crew consists of: Marvin – the paranoid android – and Trillian, previously known as Tricia McMillan – a woman Arthur once met at a party and who turns out to be the only other human survivor of Earth's destruction.
The group embarks on numerous adventures, during which Arthur learns that Earth was a massive supercomputer, created by another supercomputer - Deep Thought. Deep Thought was created to find the answer to the question of "Life, the Universe, and Everything," which after years of calculations simply found "42." Deep Thought designed an even more capable computer - Earth - to find out what the question actually was. However, Earth is destroyed 5 minutes before completing the calculation by the Vogons, and the descendants of Deep Thought's creators believe the question is somewhere in Arthur's head. With the help of his friends, Arthur escapes, and they decide to have lunch at the Restaurant at the End of the Universe.
